John Law was an outside-left who had a short spell on Tyneside during the club’s first season in the Football League.
The Scot was registered with Rangers, but had been having a trial at Everton therefore there was delay in signing as a release from both clubs had to be agreed.
He came with a big reputation and his first appearance was in the friendly against the First Royal Scots. He didn’t shine much initially in the centre, but his ability in passing and shooting was demonstrated when he moved to the outside. He made his League debut three days later.
John played in nine league games and the two FA Cup ties, in which he played at inside-left. He was capable of some grand sprinting and had a decent shot.
He returned to Glasgow after the end-of-season friendlies.
