When captain Bobby Moncur left in the summer of 1974 Harvey took a major gamble on nineteen-year-old former England Youth international Glen Keeley as his replacement. He had only made five senior appearances for Ipswich.
In 1974/75 he played alongside Pat Howard and only missed a couple of games. However, his lack of experience let him down on numerous occasions in what would prove to be an error strewn season.
Gordon Lee took over as manager during the summer and he did not seem to have confidence in Keeley. He signed John Bird to partner Howard and used David Craig as cover. As a result Keeley was banished to the reserves for the vast majority of the season.
However, as John Bird was cup-tied in the League Cup, an injury to David Craig allowed him to get a run in the team during the first two months of the New Year which meant he got to play in the League Cup Final at Wembley. To his credit he put in a couple of excellent performances in the semi-final matches with Tottenham.
He was sold to Blackburn in August 1976.
