United coach Peter Morris knew Brian Ferguson from his time at Mansfield and the Scot was only eighteen when he joined from the Stags at the beginning of 1979.
He was a midfielder who was noted for his stamina and enthusiasm and he was given a brief run in the team in the last five games of the 1979/80 season. He made his debut when he came on as sub in the home game against Burnley and scored his only goal at Loftus Road.
They were to be his only first-team games and he moved to Hull at the end of 1980.
