Thomas Campbell had a very short spell on Tyneside in which he played in the first two games of the 1894/95 season, but was then released soon after.

An outside-right, he had been signed during the summer as a replacement for Quinn.

Campbell, who had been well spoken of for his grand play in combination, had given a brilliant display against Sunderland the previous year, and it was partly on this performance that he was engaged by the United to play for them.

He played in the first match at Darwen in which United lost 5-0. The team’s shooting as a whole was execrable and at one point Campbell shot wide with the goal at his mercy.

Tom also played in the following League game at home to Burton Swifts as well as the friendlies against Sunderland and Edinburgh Hibernians (scoring once). A number of newspapers also had him down as playing in the home match against Grimsby on the 15th September, but the Daily Chronicle had Willis at outside-right.

The 24th September issue of the Scottish Referee stated that he had been released and gone to the North of Scotland.
