Tall youngster who was given only one chance in the first-team; a home match against Leicester in April 1947, which ended in a 1-1 draw.
It was a match which came after United’s failure to achieve promotion had been confirmed in which six reserves were tried out including debutants Donaldson and Anderson.
He was nineteen at the time and the Daily Mirror reported that he had a lot to learn, but gave nothing away.
He didn’t feature at all during 1947/48 and moved to Annfield Plain during the summer.
