Joe White is an highly-rated attacking midfielder and playmaker. Tidy on the ball and accurate in his passing. Exeter boss Gary Caldwell, who had worked with him at Newcastle said: "Straight away I noticed he was a player of real quality, he stood out and he has wonderful dribbling skills and a wonderful left foot”.

He joined his home town club, Carlisle, at the age of seven and stayed there until he joined Newcastle’s youth set-up in 2016 aged thirteen. He signed professional in October 2019 when he was seventeen.

He’s had successful loan spells with Hartlepool, Exeter and Crewe and represented England U18's on three occasions.

After being recalled from Crewe in January he made his first competitive appearance as a late substitute in the 2-2 draw with Bournemouth.

Eddie Howe was full of praise for him. "He’s come back from his loan spell and he's done really well. I’ve been really impressed with him in training and he’s been fitting into the group really well. He doesn’t look out of place which is a real statement. If you’re not out of place and you’re fitting in, it means you’re at the Premier League level.

His grandfather, Peter Hampton, played for Leeds, Stoke City and Burnley.
