Jamaican born Rolando Aarons was a tricky and direct winger with good balance whose main asset was his pace. Naturally left-footed, he could play on either flank or behind the main striker. He played with a genuine fearlessness on the ball.

He joined his local club, Bristol City at the age of thirteen but was released three years later. He was given a trial on Tyneside towards the end of the 2011/12 season and did well enough to be offered a scholarship. He made his debut for the U21 side in February 2013 and after adding additional workrate to his natural talent Rolando was awarded a professional contract on 1st April 2014.

In his first season as a professional in 2014/15 Rolando, showed a lot of promise. He made six first team appearances, (scoring twice), represented England at U20 Level and won the prestigious Sport Newcastle Wor Jackie Award.

However, over the next three seasons his progress stalled somewhat and he would only appear fleetingly in the side making 21 further appearances.

He wouldn’t play for the first-team again after the 2017/18 season and spent the last years of his contract out on loan to various clubs before he was sold to Huddersfield in January 2021.
