Birth 30/12/80 New Cumnock Scotland
P/H/W 5-08 12-7 12-8
Jnd. 05/02 (21) Kilmarnock £150 + £50
Left 06/04 (23) Middlesbrough £150
App/Gls 44 2

Signed for a fee of £150 plus an additional £50 if he proved a success. A muscular and vigorous young athlete who was a sturdy back of sterling ability and an excellent tackler.

In his first season he was a bulwark of the defence, distinguishing himself with his robust and clever tackling and his strong kicking; he was often the saviour of the side.

But in the following campaign he could not quite maintain the great form which brought him to prominence with the Ayrshire club. His kicking became rather wild and he lost his place in the team.

At the end of the season Middlesbrough made an approach for his services and although he initially turned them down he agreed to move once McCracken had been signed.

1902/03 (35)

Selected at the beginning of the season due to the indisposition of Davidson and was the only player to feature in every match. He had a number of different partners as United struggled to find the right blend in the back division.

1903/04 (9)

Started as first-choice, but dropped after some indifferent performances.
