A mundane and somewhat depressing season was enlivened by a series of unexpected events including a sensational press conference and a felled referee.
Squad1971/72
The promise of attacking football and Supermac evaporated as United slumped to the bottom of the table. The arrival of Tony Green saved the season but even he was powerless to stop the Nightmare on Edgar Street.
Squad1972/73
Harvey belived that "on paper we have one of the best sides in the country", but the loss of Tony Green and a lack of consistency thwarted their ambitions. The new East Stand was oprned at last.
Squad1973/74
Harvey's dream of taking United to Wembley turned into a humiliating nightmare and the fans earned national condenmation for the Quarter-Final pitch invasion. There was also a series of increasingly violent games with Birmingham.
