Glasweigan McCall arrived on Tyneside in part of the controversial deal that took popular left-winger Tommy Pearson to Aberdeen.

He took over the Number 11 shirt but was a quite different player from Pearson, with the latters flamboyance being replaced by a much more direct approach.

After helping United to promotion he lost his place in the side with either Walker or Hair being preferred and he was soon on his way back to Scotland.
